DIY Bath Tea-Bags

I can't believe that it has been almost a year since I have started blogging! It occurred to me the other day as I was registering for the Craftaholics Anonymous summer handmade gift exchange. This was the first exchange that I participated in and I was super-excited to do it again this year!
A fun new twist for this year that Linda, who hosts the party, has implemented is that we will have different people that we make gifts for then who we receive gifts from and also new this year it is our option if we want to keep our identity secret from our partner or not!
I am keeping my identity a secret from my girl for a couple of reasons, but one of the main ones is that I get to share with you all sooner what I made for her! And, I'm not going to lie...I think that it turned out super-cute. I'm exited to share it with you!
These are some DIY Bath Tea-Bags that I whipped up tonight for my partner!
I made four different kinds: Lemon Drop, Milk Bath, Rose Blossom & Relaxation. I will post the "recipe" for all of them at the end of this post!

I started by cutting 4 by 4 squares from some scrap linen fabric that I had left from last year. On the sewing machine with just a straight stitch sew 3 sides closed. I chose to a) make my own bags. and b) to leave the edges raw. (Totally a personal choice and if you don't want to make your own bags you can buy empty tea bags and just fill them yourself...since I had the material I figured that I might as well use it.)

Next you have to mix up your "tea" - which is quite literally just dumping all the ingredients in a bowl and mixing! I got all of my ingredients at my local heath food store and the local grocery!

Scroll to the bottom of the post for the recipes!

Next, fill your bags. I used about 5 heaping tablespoons in each bag and I made 3 of each kind. You could use more or less if you like, but remember that this "tea-bag" is going to be steeping in a bath-tub so you want it to be strong!
Next you will want to sew your 4th side closed. Just remember to leave enough "open" space in your bag that you can easily sew it closed. (I used the machine for this as well)

The last step for me was to design some labels and sew them in place! I just used one quick stitch in the top corner to hold them on so that she can quickly and easily pull off the tags to use the bag in the tub!.
Here is a close up of the labels that I designed!

And here is the finished product all ready to be mailed! I had so much fun making these and I am hoping that she enjoys using them! This is really a project that I would suggest that you try at home this summer...or how about this Holiday for Christmas presents?

Here are the measurements that I used for my bags, but really...you can use just about anything that you like in them!

Milk Bath
1 cup Rolled Oats
1 cup Sweet Cream Buttermilk (dried/powdered)
1/2 ounce of dried Cardamom
1 cup of Epsom Salt

Lemon Drop
1 ounce of dried Lemon Verbena
1/2 ounce of dried Rosemary
1.5 cups of Epsom Salt

Rose Blossom
1 ounce of dried Red Rose Buds
1/2 ounce of dried Hibiscus Blossoms
1 cup of Epsom Salt

Relaxation Formula
1 ounce of dried Chamomile
1/2 ounce of dried Mint
1 cup of Epsom Salt

I'll keep you posed and share with you as soon as I get the gift from my partner!
Thanks for visiting!
Cheers

    2. It did smell really good! I had the basket sitting on my desk for a while and it made the whole apartment smell nice. And my cat really loved the box cuz it was just the right size for him to curl up in :-) You can see a picture of him here if you want: http://practicallyfunctional.net/2012/07/bath-tea-bags-my-gift-from-the-gift-exchange/

I took a bath with the Relaxation tea bag the other day and it was perfect, so thanks again for the awesome gift!
